Ironwood School Staff

Sue Horton
Executive Director
As a licensed clinician in Massachusetts, I have worked exclusively with adolescents and their families in a variety of private and public school settings. My passion for this work comes from my own experience of growing up in a broken family and this personal experience inspires me to help teens and their families maintain a strong and healthy connection. As a mother of four teenagers/young adults, I understand the challenge of raising children in our chaotic and over stimulating culture. I am passionate about the family unit, whatever shape it takes, and I believe in the significance of family in formulating a strong foundation in life. Ironwood is a true haven for healing both the individual and the family. With its back-to-basics approach, struggling teens are able to find themselves again through clarifying introspection and the development of communication skills essential for life. With the support of a therapeutic environment, families can improve how to relate to each other more effectively.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent many years designing senior living facilities throughout the United States. In partnership with Wes, we formed a company that developed and managed healthcare communities. The opportunity to draw from this knowledge, coupled with my clinical experience, is what lead us to Ironwood. In my spare time I enjoy tennis, sailing, and skiing. I am an oil painter on rare occasions, a youth group leader at my church and a former Hospice volunteer. Mostly, I enjoy interacting with young people, hearing their stories and helping to facilitate their growth. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in and contribute to this very unique and successful program. It is my greatest goal to continue the standard of excellence established at Ironwood and to further improve this world class therapeutic school.
