My name is Elizabeth Drury, but I go by my nickname, Libby. I grew up as one of the younger children of a large family in Buffalo, New York. In my early teens I experienced a trauma brought on by a significant loss in my life which lead me to some unhealthy behaviors. A strong family intervention decisively changed the direction of my life. In my twenties, I spent some time living in an intentional community, which stressed hard work, mindfulness, discipline and connection to the world through craft and farming. I feel fortunate to be at Ironwood, and the opportunities I have here resonate with my professional calling.
I have been a Registered Nurse since 1979. For the past 12 years, I have practiced in community mental health, in rural and urban settings, as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Before this, I worked in a school based health center providing adolescent care. I have experience in treating substance abuse and have worked in residential adolescent treatment. I received my Master’s of Nursing Degree from U Mass Lowell. I completed an Advanced Program of Study from Boston College. I live in Mid Coast Maine on four acres that I garden and farm with my partner, John. I have a 23-year-old son, two stepsons that I helped to raise and a six-month-old grandson. I have a dog, three cats, and some chickens. My passion is to be outdoors where I love to prune, propagate, plant and pick flowers and vegetables. Also, I am an aging jock, who likes to ski, snowboard, sail and play tennis. |
